Being a SMART consumer

In class, we have just finished the culminating activity for the SMART consumer unit and the course. Consider all the information and concepts discussed in the unit and during your time working on the culminating project when you are answering the following questions;

  1. What is a SMART consumer and how can someone be one?
  2. When you were completing your SMART consumer project; what product did you research and what information or advice would you have for someone thinking of purchasing the product.

21 comments:

  1. 1. A smart consumer is a consumer that thinks about purchases they are going to make. They avoid impulse buying and take everything into consideration. They will look at reviews, price and value. By doing these things you can be a smart consumer.
    2. For the smart consumer project I researched gaming consoles. The three I researched were Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. I recommend that people buy the Xbox 360 because it has Kinect that makes you the controller, it has good exclusive games like Halo and Fable and it has Xbox Live which allows you to play games online, chat with people, watch movies on Netflix and use social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

  2. 1. A smart consumer is a person who is knowledgeable about the services, quality, and competing brands of a product before they buy something in order to make an informed decision.
    2. I researched video game consoles and learned that different consoles work for different situations and families. I would recommend the Xbox 360 because it has the largest selection of games, is the most user-friendly, has the best warranty, and is suited for professional and neophyte gamers.

  3. 1.A smart consumer is someone who researches the product that they are purchasing before they buy it, they should research the features and should no the best place to buy it and the best place to get information about it.

2.I researched video game consoles and some advice i would give to someone who is looking to buy one is to buy the PlayStation 3 because it comes with the most features and is the best quality, but you should also look for the lowest gig PlayStation because unless your a hardcore gamer you'll never use up all of that memory. People should also buy the product from future shop, because they have the lowest price and they will probably have the most knowledge on the product compared to other stores.

  4. 1. A smart consumer is someone who takes the time to research the price, quality, features and materials used in the product they are buying. A Smart consumer tries to buy when the prices are at their lowest and/or when they can use coupons to lower the price or get a deal.
    2. For my smart consumer project, i researched information on video game consoles and after i took the time to recommend someone to buy the Xbox 360 because of the constant innovations that make their console better and great online game-play. Although the price is higher, all in all the product is better and you truly are getting what you pay for.

  5. A smart consumer is someone who buys products that meets their needs, while finding balance between price, quality, and service. When completing our smart consumer project, our advice to someone buying a chocolate bar is to choose one that they like, and find it at the best price. For a product like this which are around the same price no matter where you buy them, it becomes more about personal preferance, then it does about quality, service, and price.

  6. 1. A smart consumer is someone that doesn't just go an buy a product they actually go and research about the product. To be a smart consumer they have research about a product and they have to get opinions from multiple stores and see what product to buy. Another good thing to do while being a smart consumer would be to compare similar products so that you get the best possible product and that you don't buy something that is not that good of quality.

  7. 1. A SMART consumer is a consumer who buys something based or a review or if it is on sale. They take time to understand a product, researching and reading reviews about it before purchasing the product so that you are not disappointed in the product.
    2. I researched soccer cleats because they are something that i use just about everyday. I would suggest that people should people should research the shoes before buying them. You should go to a store and talk to the salespeople and even try on the shoe so that they like the feel of the shoe before buying them. I chose the Tiempo Elite Legend IV was my shoe of choice because it is extremely comfortable and also has a lot of protection. Although the shoe is quite expensive it is worth it because you don't want to risk injuries during the game.

  9. A smart consumer is somebody who knows what to buy and how much money they should spend when the go out. They don't buy random things they don't need. They know when the product is worth buying and if the quality is worth the money. To be a smart consumer you can make lists before you go out, or bring a friend shopping. You can create a limit of spending money too.

The product we researched information on for our project was Body Mists. The advice i would give to someone who was going out to buy body mists would be to buy the one that isn't supper strong like a perfume but not super light where you use half the bottle in 5 minutes just to get a bit of a scent out of it. The most expensive bottle isn't always going to be the best. We found out that the perfect body mist didn't cost a lot of money. Also get a scent you like. There are many different variations of scents throughout every brand and you should get the scent you like or else it would just be a waste of money.

  10. 2. When i did my SMART consumers project I researched hockey sticks. I found out a lot of information that i never even knew about before. Researching hockey sticks is very important if you want to get the best product in your price range because there is so many technologies in the stick that you cant see but make a big difference in the way the stick performs. if you could buy a stick that has the most technology that would help you in the way you play hockey then that is what stick you should purchase because it would help you in your game. My advice to people who want to purchase a hockey stick that they should do research online and they should also go into more then one store and get opinions from the workers there.

  11. 1. a SMART consuemr is a consumer who is smart about what they are buying, managing their money well, using coupons to their advantage and going to sales. Not falling for the lost leader tatic, when purchasing expensive products take the features of each of the different brands into account, the quality etc.

    2. We reaserched Sheepskin boots and the 3 top selling brands that are EMU BEARAPW and UGG, the advice we wuold give when choosing the boot is pay close attention to the sole of the shoe, see if its water resisitant, see if the sheepskin itself is water resistant and then the wool on the inside of the shoe should come as youe last concern, because at the end of the day its a BOOT not a slipper so the wool on the inside shouldnt be your first concern. Even for the money though, it should be good quality because you are paying arouind 300$ for it. but you want to make sure the sole and the heel backing of the shoe is quality made and will surive 2-3 winters.

  12. 1. A smart consumer is a consumer that thinks about his buying decision. A smart consumer is also a person that takes all the features of the product into consideration and finds which one is better for them. The things to take into consideration are price, quality, material and company making them. Also a smart consumer searches the price of the product in many different stores. Smart consumers also do research on the product they are buying like online reviews and comments and is constantly trying to save money. The advice I would give to someone who wants to buy a smart phone is get the phone that satisfies your needs in a phone. If you want a simple social phone get the bb bold 9900, if you want a well built gaming speed and social phone get the iPhone 4S and if you want a slim, fast, big phone get the Galaxy S II.

    2. For my project we decided to do smart phones. The smart phones we chose were BB Bold 9900, iPhone 4S, and the Galaxy S II. We chose these phones because they are the top competing phones in the market and they are around the same price point. After taking all the features into consideration and trying each phone out we chose the IPhone 4S. We chose this phone because people our age need a phone for entertainment and speed and social features and this phone had that. We also chose this phone because it was a very well built and durable phone.

  13. 1. a smart consumer is someone who looks for coupons and deals and they save a lot of money. Someone can be a smart consumer if they use coupons, look for deals and sales, make a list, and do not over buy a product if it is not needed.

    2. When i was completing my smart consumer project, i researched yoga pants. When looking for yoga pants, make sure you figure out the quality and features of the pants. For example; look for what the pants are made of, and what they are specifially desined to use for (yoga, running ect.) Also, you should look for how long the pants should last you. for example; Lululemon pants are said to last up to 5 years with no tears, or no bleeding of the colour. Do not just look at the price of the product and determine whether the product has high quality or not. Do some research or ask the sales people in the store.

  14. 1. the smart consumer is a person who knows their limit of buying. if you use a product a lot in your everyday life then clearly it is worth it to buy the product. many smart consumers compare products to make sure they aren't getting ripped off. being a smart consumer may take time and work but it is worth it to learn more about products that are the same to make sure you buy the best one.

    2. i did my project on body mists. i found it very easy to do my project on body mists because i love things like that. while completely this project i learned that there are many amazing body mists out there. i chose bath and body works as the best kind because it has a wide selection of fragrances, it has the best service in the store, and it has the most ML in the bottles. it may be expensive but it seems very worth to buy bath and body works. my advice to other consumers is to make sure you check every store and try all the scents out before you pick your choice and also ask workers in the store what they think about the product and what the most popular one is. the most expensive is usually the best kind. there inst a lot of information you have to know about body mists because it is pretty straight forward. if you need a mist that is more like a perfume then go for pink and bath and body works. if you need a spray that is just for a refreshing smell after sports for example then go with dove.

  15. A smart consumer is a consumer who makes good choices when purchasing a product and saves alot of money. Someone can be a smart consumer by looking at the price, quality, features and services before making there purchases. being a smart consumer comes with a lot of pros one of the pros would be they get want and are not disappointed with their purchase and they also save money. The product i chose for the smart consumer project was sheepskin boots, the advice i would have for someone purchasing sheepskin boots is to look and research on the fur and materials before purchasing the boot because some materials in the boot may not be waterproof, also the fur in the boot should be thick the more thicker the boot is the more warm and comfy your feet will be in the winter.

  16. 1. A smart consumer is someone that makes better choices and buys a certain tangible or intangible item based on its quality. They make better choices that would help them and the community. Someone can become a smart consumer by researching the item they want to buy and other brands of that same item and see which has the better quality and which is really worth buying.
    2. For MY smart consumer project i chose the product digital cameras. My three leading brands were Canon, Nikon and Sony. If you were thinking of buying a camera the one i would suggest is Sony. If you really don't know which to buy, search it up and read some trusted reviews and see what other customers that have both the product say. I also suggest you compare the features of the cameras you want to buy. The one with the most features and is user-friendly is good quality.

  18. A SMART consumer is somebody who buys things based on the quality, price and service that comes with the product. They also buy only what they need and use coupons when they can.

When doing the project we researched chocolate bars. Some advice we give is to buy chocolate bars that are of good quality even if they happen to cost a little more. It doesn't matter so much which store you go to because you will get pretty much the same service with chocolate bars no matter how where you go.

  19. 1. a smart consumer is someone who researches what they are purchasing and makes and informed discussion on what they are buying to get the best value for their buck. you can become a smart consumer by trying not to impulse buy something but to research the product and see if suits your needs or if its worth buying.

    2. the product i chose for my project was the Iphone 4s. i chose this phone because it can suit all of your messaging, calling, social networking,entertainment(games,movies,music....) the iphone would be good for you if you use your phone for a lot of data usage and entertainment. it fit the needs of both the business or social uses for teens so it fits everyone's needs. i would recommended it because it has so many custom features so it can fit all your needs and you wont be disappointed.

  20. 1. a smart consumer is someone who purchases a product, and gets full use out of it. a smart consumer is someone who will look into their purchase making sure that they get the best buy, yes there also being the customer, but their the one using the product, making them the consumer as well. for example, i just got a new winter jacket, and while i was at the mall, i went to many different stores comparing many jackets. I looked at how good the jacket looked, for style and how warm its gunna keep me. i compared prices and how long i think the jacket would last me so i could get the most use out of the jacket i got, for the best price. In my opinion thats being a smart consumer.

    2. During the SMART consumer project, my group and i researched hockey sticks. for someone purchasing the product the main advice i would give is to buy something that they are sure they want, and something they feel comfortable with. buying a product where your actually spending money should invole a lot of thinking about, and the more you research the products your interested in, the btter buy your going to get.

  21. 1. A smart consumer is an individual that tries to purchase the highest quality products for the lowest price possible. Smart Consumers know when the time to buy is (if there is a seasonal or promotional sale), and where to buy the product (whether it's a big box store, online shopping, discount store, ect.). By researching products you want to purchase, you can usually find a store offering the best deal. Coupons (whether manufactor's or retailer's) can help save discounted amounts of money on specific products. Also wising choosing whether its worth buying a name brand, no name brand or any other types of cheaper brands can help to reduce costs. But it's important to realize that saving money is not the only qualtity of a smart consumer. By going research, consumers are able to identify features, quality, price and other attributes into consideration when choosing what to buy and whether it is worht the purchase. In some cases, buying the higher quality, more expensive item can be worth it as it lasts for a longer period of time. However, buying second hand or cheaper items can be fine in some situations.
    2. I did my project on tablet computers. The advice I would give to anyone thinking about buying a tablet is to really consider your needs and wants, as it can help to determine which tablet will better suit you. It has come to the point where all of the tablets available are of a high quality and have the same basic functions; however, some tablets are better for specific tasks then others. Whether you will mostly be using the tablet for work, gaming, emails or internet access can help determine which will be the best buy for you. I personally chose the iPad 2 because it was the simplest to use and it had the greatest variety of apps, which is what most of the public wants. Really researching the tablets and speaking to unbiased people that are familair with the products can help ensure you are happiest with your choice.
